Hydrant Flushing Season Has Begun

Hydrant flushing season has begun!

Why is water shooting out of the fire hydrants around the City?

  • It is part of the City's annual hydrant flushing program.  Every year the Public Works Department inspects and flushes 1,050+ hydrants across the City.
  • To make sure hydrants are ready for emergencies when firefighters need them.
  • Flushing helps maintain water quality.

When is it happening?

  • Work is happening now and will finish in late June.

What can residences do?

  • You might notice temporary water discoloration while flushing is happening.  Just run your cold-water faucet, ideally in your basement or lowest level, until the water clears!
