City of Stillwater Welcomes Tom Ballis as Fire Chief

The City of Stillwater announces that Tom Ballis has officially assumed the role of Fire Chief for the Stillwater Fire Department.

Chief Ballis brings more than three decades of experience in the fire service, including over 24 years with the Stillwater Fire Department. His deep roots in the St. Croix Valley and long-standing commitment to the community position him well to lead the department into the future.

Most recently serving as Deputy Fire Chief, Ballis oversaw daily operations, training, budgeting, and multi-agency coordination for the department. He has also led key initiatives to modernize operations, including implementing records management systems, enhancing emergency response planning, and advancing training programs for firefighters and officers.

“I’m excited to help foster the future of the Stillwater Fire Department while maintaining the rich traditions of the city,” Ballis said.

“Chief Ballis brings a strong track record of leadership, experience, and dedication to the Stillwater Fire Department,” said City Administrator Joe Kohlmann. “We are confident in his ability to lead the department forward while continuing to provide exceptional service to our community.”

The City also extends its sincere appreciation to former Fire Chief Stuart Glaser, who retired last week after 40 years of dedicated service to Stillwater. His leadership and dedication have left a lasting impact on the department and the community.

As Chief Ballis steps into this new role, the City of Stillwater looks forward to continued excellence in fire service, strong community partnerships, and a continued commitment to safety for all residents.
