Candidate filing for the City of Stillwater

Candidates for the 2026 election for City Council Ward 1 and Ward 4 can file for office in the summer of 2026. The Stillwater Candidate Filing Packet and filing dates will be available once set by the MN Secretary of State. Please check back for the exact filing dates.  

Candidates are placed on a ballot in Minnesota after they file for office.  Candidates running for City Council must complete an Affidavit for Candidacy application which is found in the Candidate Filing Packet. 

Filing for office opens Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Candidates bring the application and the non-refundable filing fee of $5.00 to City Hall located at 216 4^th St N, Stillwater, MN 55082.

Qualifications for Filing

• Must be an eligible voter
• Must be at least 21 years of age when assuming office
• Candidate must reside in the Ward in which they seek election and maintained residence in the Ward in the City from which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the election
• Has not filed for another office in the same election
