Misson

To promote a community of harmony and respect for the rights and dignity of all.

Human rights are the essential freedoms and protections that belong to every person, simply because we are human. These rights reflect the shared values of: dignity, respect and equality. They empower us to live free from fear, harassment or discrimination, and they play a vital role in shaping a just and equitable society. By upholding human rights, we help create a world where everyone is treated fairly, has a voice, and has the opportunity to thrive.

What Can the Stillwater Human Rights Commission Do for You?

The Commission was established by the City of Stillwater in 1995 to aid and advise City Council and to ensure that all citizens receive equal opportunity in those areas protected by law. The Commission is here to:

* Listen to concerns about discrimination or injustice in the community.
* Promote awareness of your rights under the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
* Collaborate with schools, organizations, and local groups to promote belonging and equity.
* Educate the public through programs on human rights and responsibilities.
* Support efforts that build a welcoming and respectful Stillwater for all.
* Work together to prevent discrimination and unfair treatment in everyday life

Stillwater Human Rights Award

Each year the Commission accepts nominations for the Stillwater Human Rights Award. Throughout the community, people work to build an environment that promotes fair and equal treatment for everyone. Their special efforts are often unrecognized outside of their own circle of friends, co-workers and neighbors. The intent of the Stillwater Human Rights Award is to recognize worthy individuals, organizations and businesses, and support them in their efforts.
